Ashley Young agrees new Manchester United contract
Young had entered the final year of his contract and many saw this as a good time to sell the player but van Gaal obviously has plans for him next season.
The aforementioned source reports that Young’s new deal will mean he will earn roughly £120,000-a-week, but more importantly it will be a relief for him to get it all out of the way.
Manchester United winger Ashley Young is reportedly close to signing a new three-year deal with the club.
Young re-established himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford last season, having struggled during the club’s ill-fated 2013-14 campaign.
He replaced British record signing Angel Di Maria in the starting XI and his performances ensured that the Argentine global could not make it back into the first eleven, and in some way contributed to the former Real Madrid man’s desire to quit the team and look to try and join Paris Saint-Germain.
Young swapped Villa Park for Old Trafford four years ago in an £18m deal and has one one Premier League title to date.
Young has revived his career under boss Louis van Gaal, showing his versatility by impressing in an unfamiliar wing-back role for United.
There were even suggestions that Young could secure a surprise move to rivals Liverpool, whilst Tottenham Hotspur were also reportedly keen on the 30-year-old, as per the Star.
