Aspiring model arrested in robbery spree

Federal authorities say charges have been filed against a second person in a series of jewelry store robberies across the South.

Kemp made her initial appearance Monday in Judge Walker’s courtroom in the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta.

The FBI office in Jacksonville said earlier this week that it was looking for a woman believed to be involved in six jewelry store robberies in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida.

The ex-waitress is accused of sticking up six jewelry stores in five states since April that netted $4 million worth of bling.

Kemp was apprehended in the Atlanta suburb of Smyrna, Georgia, along with a person who was with her at the time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

Over the next five months, four similar robberies and one attempted robbery are reported in five different states: August 11 in Panama City Beach, Fla.; September 2 in Bluffton, S.C.; October 16 in Sevierville, Tenn.; December 30 in Macon (the failed attempt); and January 4 in Mebane, N.C. In each robbery, the woman is armed.

The FBI says they arrested Abigail Kemp, 24, without incident in Smyrna on January 8.

The suspect in a string of brazen jewel heists across the South wept on Monday as she was led out of court following her arraignment.

People who knew her said they noticed her wearing new, expensive jewelry “that some of the callers believe she can not afford”.

The FBI was called in after it was discovered the robberies shared similarities.

Cell phone records associated the number with Kemp, and authorities then linked a Civic to her that matched the one in the surveillance footage from Panama City Beach.

“Some citizens also advised that Kemp possesses a black handgun and recently had her vehicle painted black”. Court records do not indicate whether Jones has a lawyer. The friend, Stephanie Godfrey, described her as cocky and mischievous.

She then took off with the merchandise. Confident. Why she left her old high school was a “fun mystery for everyone”.
