Assembly Elections 2017: How to check poll results?
In 2012 Punjab state elections, Akali Dal – BJP alliance had won 68 of the total 117 seats. Two of exit polls, meanwhile, have predicted a hung verdict in the state. It miserable performance in the Delhi government and the erosion of its reputation in Punjab as a result of widespread allegations of corruption and other misdemeanours had led to AAP losing the advantage it had seized in Punjab during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, said the PPCC chief.
Some channels in order to overcome the difficulty of these wide variations have devised their own methodology of averaging out the results of the agencies to extrapolate their own predictions – and are calling it the “Poll of Polls”.
Political observers have also pointed out how Sampla’s predecessor Kamal Sharma refrained from contesting because he apprehended that he would not be considered as a candidate for the seat he wanted to contest and this could be embarrassing in the long run.
No party is likely to get a clear majority. State Congress chief Amarinder Singh also claimed his party would emerge victorious on 65 seats. The incumbent Akali Dal-BJP alliance was predicted staring at a virtual decimation with only 7 seats in the 117-member assembly. Each poll predicted a less than 100 figure for the BSP.
The Congress-SP alliance, most polls predict, will occupy the second spot. All polls showed the alliance getting reduced to a single digit tally.
Exit polls for Legislative Assembly elections indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put up a strong showing in five Indian states.
The two parties could win 29-35 seats in the 70-member assembly, it said. Thus, a hung assembly can not be ruled out here as well.
Nearly all the exit poll results have put BJP in the top with maximum number of seats. But India TV shows AAP winning with 59-67 seats with the Congress getting 41-49.
However, this time also, the BSP is contesting on all the 40 seats in this phase followed by BJP (32), SP (31), Congress (9), RLD 21, other parties 263 and independent 139.
