Aston Martin Confirms Turbocharged V12 Engine
Now, don’t get us wrong, because the automobile will retain all of Aston’s unique features and design philosophy, but Autocar reports that it will have completely new underpinnings, as the Gaydon-based company looks to replace all of its core sports cars in the next five years.
When it arrives, we’ll find out just how much power and torque Aston Martin has managed to extract from the unit, though it could become one of the firm’s most powerful V12 engines – if not quite reaching the heights of the screaming limited-run Vulcan and One-77 hypercars.
Aston Martin has released the first official details of the DB9’s long-awaited replacement, the DB11, with a short video confirming the existence of an all-new 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine.
Few details are available on the DB11, besides a little about its engine: it’s smaller than the current DB9, but it has two turbos attached. While the old naturally aspirated engine made a maximum power of 568 bhp in the Vanquish, the new turbocharged is expected to make around 600 bhp.
Aston Martin’s latest powerplant will not be the only turbocharged offering in the range, the manufacturer expecting some V8 twin-turbo units from Mercedes-AMG, its most recent partner. While the naturally aspirated engine makes a maximum power of 430 bhp, the AMG engine makes a maximum power of 510 bhp. Besides, turbocharging should bring lower emission figures and a higher performance level for the cars that will use the new engine.
