Aston Villa sign Spanish footballer Crespo
Aston Villa have made their fifth signing of the season after completing a deal for Spanish defender Jose Angel Crespo.
Crespo’s transfer comes as little surprise to anyone, after the Liga Adelante side tweeted that a deal had been agreed on Monday, following their relegation from the first divison.
Previously on the books of Sevilla, Padova and Bologna, the 28-year-old has also had loan spells at Racing Santander and Verona.
As well as Crespo Villa have brought in Amavi, Richards, Scott Sinclair, Mark Bunn, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Ayew.
Speaking to AVFC.co.uk about the news, manager Tim Sherwood commented, “Jose is a player who has been on our radar for some time and we’re really pleased to secure his signature“.
It is believed that Crespo will be in serious contention for a regular starting place at Villa this season, as he battles Scotland worldwide Alan Hutton for the right-back spot.
Villa are also in talks about signing Nante midfielder Jordan Veretout for £10m, while Emmanuel Adebayor is in Birmingham and edging closer to signing from Tottenham.
“He is an experienced player who has played in La Liga and Serie A, two of the strongest leagues in Europe”, said Sherwood, who saved Villa from the drop last term and guided them to the FA Cup final after replacing Paul Lambert when he was sacked in February.
