Aston Villa talent Jack Grealish in no rush regarding global future
The worldwide future of a certain Jack Grealish has been one of the hottest topics of conversation in both the Ireland and England camps as the Aston Villa winger strung both countries along for well over a year now. He has played for the Republic of Ireland youth team from the under-17 age group and up and has been called up to the full senior side in the past.
This follows reports earlier on Thursday that Grealish was set to choose England rather than Ireland ahead of next month’s final round of Euro 2016 qualifiers.
The news will come as a disappointment for Martin O’Neill who, it is believed, had hoped to include the youngster in his squad for Ireland’s upcoming games with Germany and Poland.
Ireland fans were given an insight into the mindset of Grealish’s representatives after Jonathan Barnett, the founder of Stellar, revealed that he had tried to persuade his highest-profile client Gareth Bale to declare for England because of the financial incentives.
Aston Villa’s English midfielder Jack Grealish celebrates Villa’s second goal during the FA Cup semi-final between Aston Villa and Liverpool at Wembley stadium in London on April 19, 2015. When asked about the England manager’s comments O’Neill said: “That’s encouraging, that’s encouraging. Well done Roy, putting the pressure on”.
“I think it’s very inappropriate”.
With England already qualified for Euro 2016, Grealish may feel he has a shot at making the 23-man squad, though Hodgson has said he doesn’t see anyone who didn’t play for him in the qualifying campaign making the cut.
“We’ve spoken to him and what we’ve said, quite simply, is that we think he is a very talented footballer”.
“Early qualification could give me the opportunity for experimentation”.
