Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace in the Premier League
Aston Villa will gain some confidence from their hard-fought 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday which brought an end to their dismal 19-game winless run, manager Remi Garde said. “Not to take the pressure off me – if I didn’t want the pressure I wouldn’t have this job”. That’s all I can say. Tuesday night against Crystal Palace was different. “I want my players to be more confident and hopefully that’s what will happen”.
Despite Villa’s predicament at the foot of table, and their woeful record of one win in 20 league games prior to last night, Pardew insisted they deserved the points.
Palace started the match in lively and confident fashion and Wilfried Zaha hit the post inside the first minute, his crisp shot coming back off the woodwork with Villa keeper Mark Bunn so bamboozled by the winger’s effort he was sat on the ground.
“Even though the goal was fortunate they were the better team overall and we came across a side who worked very hard”.
Palace are [2.56] to win this, and I think that’s a big price against a hapless Villa side.
This was Villa’s first home league win since they beat West Ham United on 9 May.
Wayne Rooney’s 79th-minute strike, his second goal of the game, put United 3-2 up at Newcastle but Dummett struck in the last minute for the relegation-threatened hosts who had battled back from 2-0 down.
There is every possibility that Villa do this after every match, but maybe because of the victory it has been highlighted more…as the club announced through their Twitter page that they’ve made a decision to sell issues of the match programme via their eBay account, which you can see below. A club that had been beaten down and had fingers stuck in its face said, “no more” and took a stand.
Garde has already lost out on players because of Villa’s position at the bottom of the league and knows the squad needs another overhaul in the summer, despite the club signing 13 new players a year ago. Gestede, Ayew, Grealish, Sanchez, Bacuna and Sinclair there is some attacking talent here but they simply havent scored enough goals with just fifteen goals this season.
“He’s made one mistake since he’s been in goal in all those games and we’ll be getting behind him to make sure he forgets about it and make him realise how important he is to the team”.
