ASU falls to Falk and Washington State 38-24
Senior safety Jordan Simone, a Washington native and Washington State transfer, led the way for the Sun Devils with eight solo tackles.
Falk is averaging more than 400 yards per game through the air, and the Cougars lead the Pac-12 in passing yardage.
Arizona State is big on the blitz and leads the Pac-12 in sacks.
Now the Arizona State Sun Devils own a record of 4-4, and have posted a corresponding record of 2-6 against the spread.
– On its go-ahead third-quarter scoring drive, Washington State twice converted on third down, matching its first half total (2-for-9).
Falk threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Harrington on WSU’s first drive of the second half, lifting the Cougars to their first lead at 17-14.
The Sun Devils are having an up and down season, now riding a two-game losing skid with a defeat suffered against the Utah Utes (34-18) and a 61-55 triple-overtime loss to Oregon.
Arizona State poses a different kind of problem on the other side of the ball.
Bercovici completed 27 of 44 passes for 229 yards.
– Bercovici’s third-quarter touchdown run was his fifth of the season and 18th by a Sun Devil QB under Graham.
“That’s the worst performance we’ve had defensively in the second half”, Arizona State coach Todd Graham said. “Do we steal signals?”
“That was pretty important”, Graham said. “Do people steal our signals? Yeah they do.” The Pac-12 said it has received no formal request from a school for an inquiry.
GOING BOWLING: Washington State needs just one more win in an encouraging season to become bowl-eligible.
The defensive stop seemed to be what Washington State needed to get its offense moving as Falk would take over at his own three yard line and drive 92 yards to the Arizona State seven before Erik Powell nailed the 22 yard field goal to put the Cougars on the board at 14-3 with 14:10 left in the second quarter. “We have to flush it”, said offensive lineman Cole Madison. “We’ve got to move forward”.
Arizona State scored on its opening drive, with Richard running into the end zone from the 6-yard line. Morrow this week explained the origin of each name: Earth is Gerard Wicks, a power runner.
The game between Washington State and Arizona State will be today, November 7, at 3:30 p.m. EST. “You can’t control the weather, so if it wants to snow, that’ll be fun”, he said. “We were kind of playing soft”.
On the next series, Marcellus Pippins recovered an Arizona State fumble at WSU’s 32, but the Cougars had to punt.
After a two-year scheduling break, ASU and Washington have played one another in each of the past two seasons with the Sun Devils coming away victorious in both matchups, including last year in Seattle, 24-10.
The Cougars also came up short in their last game, falling to the Stanford Cardinal 30-28. “Why don’t we leave the strategy to me and leave writing the articles to you?”
