At 2 people hospitalized stabbed at North Texas Wal-Mart
A Wal-Mart employee attacked two people during peak shopping hours at the super-store in Princeton, Texas Wednesday.
At least two people were stabbed late Wednesday afternoon. The suspect, which police have not yet confirmed the identity of, did have a Walmart vest in his possession, according to Princeton Police Chief James Waters.
It had already been a full day for Waters.
Waters said that 200 to 300 customers and Wal-Mart employees were evacuated from the store.
WFAA-TV identified one of the victims as an off-duty fire battalion chief.
Officers were searching the inside of the Walmart for more potential victims.
KPNX was told by witnesses that the firefighter helped another person who was stabbed, even as he was bleeding from his neck. Both are expected to recover, police said.
“After further investigation, the Princeton Police Department is confident that the victims were not targeted for any reason other than being at the wrong place at the wrong time”, the Princeton Police Department posted on its Facebook page.
Martinez, who is in custody, was also hurt.
“Today’s events are deeply troubling”, read a statement from Wal-Mart. Our thoughts are with everyone who was a part of this bad situation. “The associate who did this was arrested and his employment at our store was immediately terminated”.
