At 26, cat is oldest known to Guinness
“It’s truly awesome to have picked Corduroy out from a litter when I was nearly 7 years old and still have him in my life today”, Okura said. However, Tiffany Two has since passed away and Corduroy is now the World’s Oldest Living Cat once again.
Corduroy claimed the record after the passing of Tiffany Two, a cat that lived for 27 years, 2 months and 20 days, according to Guinness.
The cat named Corduroy is owned by a family in the central Oregon city of Sisters.
Kristen Ott, a Guinness World Records spokeswoman, said that there may still be a cat living somewhere that is older than Corduroy. Corduroy the cat seems to be getting the most out of this one, having recently turned a record-setting 26 years old – or approximately 120 “cat years”.
Corduroy lives in Oregon with Ashley Reed Okura, and, at 26 years old, is the oldest documented living cat in the world, Guinness World Records officials confirmed last week. For his special day, Okura got Corduroy a live white mouse from Petco and said that his pet enjoyed the treat right away. He still goes exploring the family’s 160-acre property and hasn’t lost his knack for hunting birds or small rodents.
Applications for the title are welcome, she says, adding that the dog must be at least 21 years old. His favourite food included cheddar cheese and mice. Another cat was much older than both of these two at the age of 38 years old. Crème Puff’s owner, Jake Perry, also used to own a cat named Grandpa Rex Allen, a previous record holder.
The difference between Corduroy and these other cats is that Corduroy is still alive and doing well. Happy 26th birthday old boy! Let’s hope Corduroy holds the title for as long as he can.
