At least 19 killed as 2 trains derail in central India
“Simultaneously, on the other track, the engines and coaches of the Janata Express also got derailed”. So the last bogies of Kamayani Express got derailed.
Bhopal Railway PRO said that over 250 passengers were rescued so far. A relief train carrying Collector, SP, doctors and other railway staff has left for the accident site from Itarsi.
Kamayani Express, which runs between Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus station to Varanasi Junction in Uttar Pradesh, was derailed around midnight near Khiriya village in Harda district, about 160 km from here, Superintendent of Police Prem Babu Sharma told IANS.
Saksena said at least two coaches had been partially submerged in a river.
Meanwhile, rescue operations continued even as several passengers were feared trapped in water after coaches of both the train plunged into the river. Mittal also said that the passengers will be taken to the destination locations via special trains from Itarsi.
