At least 2 dead in Kenya after boat with 200 people capsizes

At least 30 people feared dead after a boat capsized in Lake Victoria around 2 am Wednesday morning.

The local time was 2am when it happened said regional police chief Willy Lugusa.

The boat was heading for the Kiwa Island from the Remba Island when the incident took place.

More than 200 people were on board when the accident took place after a collision with another boat, reports say.

Four people who were aboard the fishing boat have all been accounted for, Lugasa said, according to the AP. Emergency workers from the Kenya Red Cross are said to have rescued 23 people following the accident while several others remain unaccounted for.

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing and the death toll is expected to rise as many remain missing.
