At least 25 terrorists killed in North Waziristan
The security sources said that the fresh aerial strikes were carried out in Lawara Mandi area of North Waziristan’s Datta Khel tehsil which left more than 30 terrorists killed.
“The fighting had intensified in the bordering areas of Shawal, while jets have been pounding militant hideouts in the area for months”, they said.
The Pakistani Army says 25 suspected militants have been killed in air strikes on northwestern strongholds near the border with Afghanistan.
Pakistan Army launched Operation Zarb-i-Azb, a grand operation in the North Waziristan tribal region, following a Taliban attack on the Jinnah worldwide Airport in Karachi in June 2014.
Following Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the military had launched another operation in the strategic Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency in mid-October, a year ago against the Mangal Bagh-led Lashkar-e-Islam extremist group and its Taliban supporters.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York Wednesday reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate terrorists from its soil. “It has made substantial progress in cleansing our country of all terrorists and will conclude only when our objective has been accomplished”, said Nawaz Sharif, while addressing the U.N General Assembly.
