At least 5 kids got wrong immunizations at New Jersey clinic – KXXV
The free clinic operated by the health department was located at Memorial Hospital of Salem County in Mannington Township, but the hospital was not affiliated with the free clinic other than providing space.
None of the children have apparently suffered any adverse health effects because of the errors. But Salem County is paying to monitor the children going forward.
Officials reviewed 22 patient records during an annual audit and found irregularities with shots given to at least five children between July 2014 and June 2015.
“Just making sure we are putting a lid on the negative aspects of this program”.
The five children who received wrong medication included two children who were injected with expired vaccines, one child who received the flu mist dose, one kid who received the Gardasil injection, and one child who received a vaccine that officials have not yet determined. Mandi insists that Salem County is actually to blame and that the county should train nurses better. Operation of the clinic will remain suspended “subject to further action” by the Board of Chosen Freeholders, officials said, though it wasn’t clear what additional action was required.
The audit also found $20,000 worth of vaccines were not properly refrigerated.
The county has shut down the clinic, which served the uninsured.
