At least one arrest at Alton Sterling protest in Baton Rouge

The Baton Rouge Police Department didn’t respond to this claim. The demonstrators eventually moved on to join other protests planned later Friday at Lee Circle in New Orleans, which some in the city are seeking to have removed, calling it a memorial to a defender of slavery.
Pointing to the crowds shouting along a fence surrounding the police department she said: “To me, this is just a snapshot of north Baton Rouge and how frustrated they are”.
McMillon said she didn’t know Sterling to carry a gun and doesn’t believe he had one with him that night. “That’s why I don’t want them to go to the police station”, he said.
Most of the protesters were arrested for obstruction of highway or impeding the roadway after the protest spilled out onto Airline Highway.
And after a lengthy standoff, more police in full riot gear moved in, pinning some of the protesters as others fled.
Dallas Police Chief David Brown initially blamed “snipers”, but authorities Friday said Micah Johnson, 25, had acted alone.
The White House said Mr Obama plans to “personally express the nation’s support and gratitude” for the service and sacrifice of the dead officers.

Thomas couldn’t hide from her pain any longer after watching the video of Alton Sterling’s killing in her home city, and she wished more of her peers felt the same. Those safety concerns were also on the mind of Baton Rouge resident Eugene Collins, also at the convenience store. “We are working to identify this officer so we can better understand the reason he might have done this”, said the emailed statement from Lt. Jonny Dunnam of the Baton Rouge Police Department. Police have really not said much else about the homeless man at this time. Officers in Baton Rouge killed Alton Sterling, 37, outside a convenience store on Tuesday. Candle-lit balloons were released into the hot night air nearby in honor of Sterling and protesters waved signs and chanted slogans.
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said late Sunday he was “very proud” of his state’s law enforcement response. He was a man simply standing outside of the Triple S Food Mart and selling some CDs, and there are many who see this killing as murder. The U.S. Justice Department has launched a civil rights investigation.
