AT&T launches first TV-phone plan after DirecTV deal
According to the company, an average household could save up to $600 or more in the first year by combining their contracts.
AT&T Introduces New TV Wireless Service and the offer will include DVR and HD service for up to four TV receivers, AT&T’s U-verse or DirecTV where it is available, unlimited texting and talking for four wireless lines and up to 10GB of wireless data for $200 per month for basic video services for new U-Verse or DirecTV customers.
AT&T has launched its first TV bundle, less than a month after acquiring DirecTV. However, he did not provide any details on those plans.
AT&T will offer an array of plans that allow consumers to subscribe to pay TV programming alone, combine their video service with a mobile phone package (and save $10 a month), or opt for an “all included” plan that sweeps in video, wireless phone and high-speed Internet access (AT&T will waive the monthly equipment fees in the first year).
The package announced Monday largely amounts to a $10-a-month discount for getting TV and wireless services at any level on the same bill.
AT&T, fresh off its completed acquisition of DirecTV, is already flexing its muscles as a combined company.
Following the acquisition, AT&T seems to be at a higher position than its competitors, with a variety of skills and resources coming in from the satellite service provider. Bentley said customers also would have a single number to call for customer service, and employees at AT&T stores would be able to set up customers’ phones so that they could start watching TV through apps right away, even before service is installed in the living room.
An analyst at Recon Analytics, Roger Entner, stated that TV as a separate business is no longer successful and merging it with other wireless media services has perhaps become necessary.
Reuters reports that AT&T will offer their new bundle starting on August 10.
Dish has been rumored to be in merger talks with T-Mobile.
