AT&T offering new unlimited data plan as TV promotion
Beginning tomorrow, new and existing AT&T consumer wireless customers who have or add AT&T DIRECTV® or AT&T U-Verse TV may get the new AT&T Unlimited Plan, offering customers more data to use for watching video, playing games and surfing the web on their mobile devices.
The new plan, available starting Tuesday (Jan. 12), is available to new and existing AT&T residential wireless customers who have or add DirecTV or U-verse TV service.
AT&T is reviving the unlimited data plan, but only for its TV subscribers.
As it does for current grandfathered customers, the new Unlimited Plan offers unlimited data, talk, and text to its users instead of a month-by-month data allotment. Customers can get the AT&T Unlimited Plan on a smartphone for $100 per month.
AT&T calls this “the first of many integrated video and mobility offers the company plans to announce in 2016”. Additional smartphones can be added to the plan at a rate of $40 per month, but AT&T says that it’ll give you the fourth line free (in the form of a bill credit that’ll appear after two months).
Want an unlimited data plan?
Like before, consumers who combine AT&T wireless and DirecTV/U-Verse bills will save an additional $10/month per household account.
The catch is that you’ll need to be a DIRECTV or U-Verse TV subscriber to get this new Unlimited Plan. “Video traffic continues to grow on our network as fast as ever because people enjoy viewing their favorite video content on their favorite devices”. “No compromises in video quality”. AT&T is also still offering up to $500 in incentives for you to switch on over to their network.
T-Mobile has been pushing Binge On, which lets subscribers access Netflix, Hulu, ESPN and other apps without having that data usage count toward monthly caps.
The move is an attempt by the nation’s second-largest wireless carrier to get you on both its video service and its wireless service. “(Today) we have the rights to pick your premium cable TV channel, because we have it for virtually all of them now…and to deliver it to the mobile device”. Tablets connected to the plan will cost an additional USD 40, or USD for 1GB, while watches will cost an additional USD 10.
