AT&T plans to increase price of grandfathered unlimited plans in February
Having said that, AT&T’s legacy plans for unlimited data also now cost $30, (whereas Verizon’s were $10 less) but will soon end up at $35 a month on top of normal monthly bill costs for rate plans. Unfortunately for the carrier, most of these users have been forsaking the temptations of smartphone subsidies for years because they simply don’t want to have to deal with the threat of monthly data overages.
AT&T is raising the price of its unlimited data plan by $5, joining a recent wave of wireless carriers trying to price customers out of limitless mobile Internet.
AT&T isn’t the only carrier to increase the price of its unlimited data service for those customers who still subscribe to the offering.
The news that AT&T will increase the price of its unlimited data plan doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Interestingly, Sprint will still let you sign a 24-month contract for the iPhone, making the 64GB iPhone 6s $300 upfront, but a monthly fee of $95 for unlimited talk, text, and LTE data.
For years, AT&T and Verizon have been trying numerous tactics to persuade grandfathered customers of their unlimited data plans to switch to different options. AT&T’s latest move is a pretty slight one and probably won’t get too many people to jump ship, because it is only a $5 bump.
What about you? Do you still have a grandfathered unlimited plan on AT&T?
It will cost another $5 per month, bringing the monthly price up to $35.
