AT&T to cut data overage charges for wireless customers
Our answer is the simplicity of Unlimited Freedom. “After Un-carrier 12, the wireless industry will never be the same again”. “The first line is priced at $70 a month, the second at $50 and additional lines are only $20, up to 8 lines”.
T-Mobile US’ current unlimited plans are priced at $95 for the first line, $75 for the second line and $55 for additional lines.
Legere boasts that a family of four will get unlimited talk, text, and data for only $40 a line, but that’s a bit misleading. While a couple with 2 GB of data would pay $80 before, ONE increases that monthly cost to $120.
It is worth noting that all these prices apply to customers with AutoPay enabled. After that, lines 3 through 10 will cost $30 per month. T-Mobile One provides unlimited data, but caps video resolution at 480p by default. Instead of hitting customers with fees for going over data quotas, it will automatically reduce wireless speeds to 2G for free. The move means you can run two handsets with unlimited data for $100 per month, which is a great price.
T-Mobile is ditching the data plan for an unlimited model that they hope will change how people use data – and draw customers away from competitors like Verizon and AT&T. Will it save your family money or cost more?
“Tethering is included, along with updated tethering packages as well, but I think one of the things that’s big is you can now add tablets with unlimited streaming for $20 per tablet”, Legere said. If you want HD video, you’ll have to pay another $25 (!) per month. A tablet can also be added at United States dollars 20 per month. Tethering will be limited to only 2G speeds.
The new unlimited plan at T-Mobile will be available starting September 6 for all contract customers, while prepaid customers will have access to T-Mobile One at a later date.
Interestingly enough, Sprint also introduces a similar plan today.
It’s now AT&T that offers the unlimited option with the fewest limits, though to get its unlimited plan customers have to choose it for both wireless and TV service.
T-Mobile had been considering the move to unlimited data plan for almost two years, Legere said in a conference call after the announcement.
Sprint isn’t saying when they’ll start throttle users that are using excessive amounts of data, but it’ll likely be around 20GB of data per month. Any additional lines cost $30 per month, up to five lines.
Sprint’s plan is a better-value, at least on paper, if you need to have up to three lines per account.
