AT&T turns on Wi-Fi Calling for iPhone users
Early on, AT&T is supporting WiFi calling on select iOS smartphones – the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5 Plus.
This time, it’s AT&T’s turn to allow Wi-Fi Calling although limited to a few devices only.
Wi-Fi calling has been available from T-Mobile and Sprint for a while, and AT&T formally complained to the FCC that the feature was switched on without its competitors securing a TTY waiver.
Your phone will also send text messages over Wi-Fi in the same situation.
The road has been a long and winding one but according to the Verge, subscribers of AT&T can finally make use of Wi-Fi calling on their mobile devices.
There is no additional cost to set this up, but Wi-Fi calls can only be made for free if they’re between USA, Puerto Rico, or U.S. Virgin Island numbers. With this development, more people can take advantage of the Internet connection and be able to communicate with family and friends whether they are at work or at home.
Wi-Fi calling can be useful whenever users find themselves in an area with weak or no carrier coverage.
The feature is quite handy when you have a Wi-Fi connection but your cell connection sucks.
Friends, family, and colleagues can still call you on your regular cellular phone number.
