AT&T Will Launch Streaming TV Service With New Taylor Swift Show
Cord-cutters now have more options as AT&T debuts DirecTV Now, a streaming video service carrying more than 120 channels, the company said.
The carrier said the offering is set to launch November 30, with customers able to access the service by downloading an application through Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play application store.
AT&T is officially joining other over-the-top streaming providers like Sony’s PlayStation Vue and Dish Network’s Sling TV. That 100 channel package will cost $60 in the future, which to many of you seems to be a staggering amount, and you have to wonder what AT&T were thinking to come up with such a high figure? HBO and Cinemax can be added for $5 each per month. AT&T is pushing to get people to sign up right away by offering promotional rates and giving away Amazon Fire TV Sticks and Apple TVs to people who prepay for one and three months of the service, respectively.
There are already a few online services that aim to replace cable, but they haven’t attracted many users yet. It’s also offering 3 months of service to folks who buy a LeEco LE S3 or LePro 3 smartphone or a LeEco Super4 X43 Pro TV.
John Stankey, CEO of AT&T entertainment group said that he is positive about their DirecTV’s success because everyone is looking to get rid of TV network cables and contracts. This includes most advanced Genie HD DVR and an outstanding lineup of live and on-demand programming, plus add-on features like premium sports packages and the industry’s best picture format: 4K Ultra High Definition.
Traditionally, users needed a two-year commitment and credit check to get DirecTV, but those requirements are not needed for the new service. AT&T Mobility customers will not use their allotted data when watching DIRECTV NOW or FreeVIEW in the App.
The DirecTV Now service will support the fourth generation Apple TV box, Amazon Fire TV box, Google Cast platforms, web browsers, and Apple and Android smartphones and tablets, informitv reports. The service brings you more than 1,500 hours of ad-free premium scripted and unscripted original series, TV shows and films licensed from studio partners. And, through the DIRECTV NOW app AT&T includes the FreeVIEW service with on-demand content from AUDIENCE Network.
