At the GOP undercard debate, the focus was on defeating Clinton
Huckabee: “If we’re going to do something for the Syrians, let’s find out who they are, let’s build an encampment for them, but closer to where they live rather then bringing them here when they don’t know the language or the culture”.
Moderators: For the main event, FBN Managing Editor of Business News Neil Cavuto, FBN Global Markets Editor Maria Bartiromo and WSJ’s Editor-in-Chief Gerard Baker. According to Christie, it was because he didn’t view himself as running against Jindal, but running against Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton. Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana accused him of assenting to Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion and increasing food stamp enrollment in New Jersey. Christie said he plans to fire a “whole bunch of IRS agents” and “make the tax code fair, flatter and simpler” to help in kick starting the recovery, while Gov. Huckabee thinks we should get rid of it all together.
Christie joined Jindal, Santorum and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the 7 p.m. debate at the Milwaukee Theater in Wisconsin. Both became targets for Jindal, who, along with former Pennsylvania Sen.
‘Are we willing to cut the government economy so we can grow the American economy?’
“The Fed has manipulated the dollar, so it doesn’t have a standard, tie the dollar to something fixed and if it’s not going to be gold, make it the commodity basket”, Huckabee said. He was on the main stage that night. Unlike Mr. Christie, his message to the viewers was that only a hard-line conservative can win the White House, and that’s why Republicans have lost presidential elections.
“I’ll give you a ribbon for participation – and a juice box”, Jindal told Christie at one point. “I got to tell you, I don’t have a lot of sympathy”, Christie said. “You expanded Medicaid”, claimed Jindal. “We can’t even afford to take care of Americans”.
If Chris Christie has even the slightest bit of self-awareness, part of his soul must have died tonight during the Republican undercard debate from sheer humiliation.
“Hillary Clinton’s coming for your wallet, everybody”, Christie warned.
“If there was ever a candidate who was a fighter and could find a way to bounce back after being demoted to the secondary debate forum”, he said, “it’s Chris Christie”.
For corporate America, Christie said he supports giving American companies a one-time opportunity to repatriate foreign profits at attractive tax rates. “She will drown us in debt”.
The other two candidates onstage had less air time but still managed memorable moments.
“Because they fight!” he shouted.
The governor of Louisiana said the GOP has been losing nationally because “we’re trying to be cheaper versions of the Democratic Party”.
All scored at least 1 percent in four recent polls by Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily and Quinnipiac, but scored under the 2.5 percent minimum for the Prime Time debate that followed.
