Atlantic region wakes up to snow, rain mix
The latest forecast map from the National Weather Service Mount Holly station projects 2-3 inches of snow falling in Monmouth and Ocean counties, with up to 3 or 4 in Little Egg Harbor.
Several school systems were closed in the Louisville and Cincinnati metro areas on Tuesday.
Bands of show showers were expected to continue coming off Lake Huron and sweeping southwestward, the Weather Service said.
The storm lasted into early Tuesday in New Hampshire, where the first-in-the-nation presidential primary is being held.
Snow there will accumulate during the day and the evening and could fall at a “heavy rate” at times, especially later in the day, the NWS said. The third storm in five days to hit the region has caused winter storm warnings in the higher peaks of the Appalachians, as well as southern Pennsylvania and OH, according to The Weather Channel.
Forecasters said some areas of the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard will have received about a foot of snow by Tuesday morning after the storm continued overnight.
FRIDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy skies will be around for Friday with the chance for scattered snow showers. In Connecticut, a bus carrying about 70 passengers from New York City to the Mohegan Sun casino crashed on a snowy Interstate 95 and fell on its side in Madison.
“A few heavy snow showers may result in a quick one to two inches of snowfall in a short period of time result in roads becoming snow covered”, the weather service said in a special weather statement. East wind 6 to 8 miles per hour.
Cold, windy weather descended on the Carolinas. A breeze at times this weekend could send wind chills into the “dangerous” category. “Additional snowfall accumulations of a dusting to 1” of snow are possible through early Wednesday.
