Atletico Madrid rule out bid to bring back Diego Costa
Unable to raise the bar this season, Chelsea are being seen as underdogs and, although other teams would like to draw them, Mourinho believes Chelsea can still win the Champions League.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that every Champions League team will want to take on the Blues as he believes that his side are one of the weakest in the tournament.
Chelsea played the game they had to and delivered a solid performance to qualify to the next round where they could face again PSG like they did the past two years (Round of 16 in 2014-15 and Quarterfinals in 2013-14).
Mourinho, who steered the English champions to a 2-0 win over his former club Porto on Wednesday night to finish top of qualifying Group G, said history showed the favourites often find it hard to excel in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
Gent, for example, would certainly be more preferable than the likes of Juventus of Paris Saint-Germain.
“It would be better not to meet Atletico now, they’re a very uncomfortable team to play”.
He dropped a huge hint that a return could be on the cards when he was asked by saying: “You never know – look where Filipe Luis is now”. In this moment, zero (goals conceded), zero, one, zero, one.
Chelsea striker Diego Costa has admitted that he was “wrong” to throw a bib at his manager, Jose Mourinho, but insists that the incident has not affected his “amazing” relationship with the Portuguese.
Having been played through on goal, the Spain international’s low shot cannoned off Porto keeper Iker Casillas and straight into Marcano, who inadvertently ricocheted the ball towards goal. “His lack of confidence?” The first goal was obviously an own goal but his movement was great when the pass arrived.
When it became apparent Costa would not be used in the goalless draw at White Hart Lane last month he appeared to fling his pink substitutes’ bib in the direction of Mourinho, narrowly missing.
Hazard received from Costa near the left touchline before surging across the edge of the penalty area and feeding the onrushing Willian to blast low into the bottom right hand side of the goal. We come into a season that hasn’t been good, and the supporters expected [a win] so we entered the pitch with a different mentality. Last season he would score immediately.
