Atletico Madrid sign Montenegrin defender Savic
Atletico Madrid are apparently interested in Fiorentina central defender Stefan Savic, and are willing to offer cash plus veteran midfield enforcer Mario Suarez to bring the Montenegrin to Madrid.
Sousa had expressed his desire to keep hold of the defender after the Viola’s 2-0 win over Carpi yesterday, saying ‘I would like the team to be balanced and competitive in every area.’.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Atletico”.
Savic will undergo his medical in Madrid today prior to the completion of his move.
The centre-back continued: “Simeone is the best coach in football”.
Savic will provide more defensive options to Simeone as he takes his side into the 2015/16 season, having sold Joao Miranda to Inter Milan and Toby Alderweireld to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer. “I hope to talk with him soon to see what he expects of me”.
If the deal is finalised, Savic will join an Atletico side that finished third in La Liga during the last campaign and will play in next season’s Champions League. “Mario Suarez is also a very good player and will surely help Fiorentina to achieve great success”.
Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina looked favourites to sign Suarez, who has an £8.5million release clause in his contract at the Vicente Calderon.
