ATLETICO MADRID starlet Griezmann admits: “‘If Simeone leaves…”
Telefoot: Antoine Griezmann says he will stay with Atletico Madrid while Diego Simeone remains manager amid reports linking manchester United with a world record bid for the Frenchman.
However, as Manchester United’s purchase of his worldwide teammate Paul Pogba showed, this summer a $110 million buyout clause is not necessarily an impediment to some of the richest clubs in England and in the past few days the UK press have linked United to interest in Griezmann.
Juventus are planning a January move for Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian. “I would be very upset if he left”, the former Real Sociedad forward continued in words which will not have done a lot to reassure Atletico supporters.
“PSG are not my goal at the moment”, he added.
Antoine Griezmann has claimed that he would “think about leaving” Atletico Madrid if head coach Diego Simeone departed the Vicente Calderon. “I’m happy in Spain”, the France worldwide added. I’m always proud to be popular with the fans.
The 25-year-old’s contract now runs until 2021 and has made 108 appearances for the Spanish side since joining them in 2014. “If they like it, it’s even better”.
Understandably the attacker has attracted plenty of interest in his services but appeared to commit his long-term future to Atletico after signing a new five-year contract back in June that saw his buy-out fee increase to around £86m.
He has also been on record praising Pogba’s return to the club by revealing it is the ideal side for his French teammate, Griezmann himself has also suggested he may be interested in a move to the Premier League one day in the future.
The 25-year-old has scored 44 La Liga goals in the last two seasons for the Spanish outfit, also winning the Golden Boot award at Euro 16 with six goals for France during the tournament.
