Attack on India and Pakistan needs to act ?
According to the BBC, six militants and several Indian soldiers were killed during four days of gun battle between the two sides.
The United Jihad Council, a Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) based militant group, has claimed responsibility for the Pathankot attack. This statement came from a top American official hours after Islamabad said that they are working on the “proofs” that have been submitted by India. “Look, a terrible treachery has taken place”, the editorial alleged, noting that Pakistan needed to be warned that if they wanted to improve ties with India, they should hand over the attack’s mastermind Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar to India rather than just issuing mere condemnations.
Search operations inside the 2,000-acre Pathankot air force base will continue until all areas have been completely secured, Maj. The base has a fleet of India’s Russian- origin MiG-21 fighter jets and Mi-25 and Mi-35 attack helicopters, along with other military hardware.
Although officials are trying to stress that damage at the airbase was minimized, questions are being raised over how the gunmen managed to enter the military facility despite intelligence alerts about a possible terror attack.
“So far New Delhi has not cancelled the planned talks”. “How should this happen after all the alerts that were given?”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday received a phone call from his Pakistani counterpart, who assured him all support in Pathankot attack probe.
The home ministry initially said the attack was contained the same day, however it later emerged that militants were still at the site.
The Sharif-Modi telephonic conversation followed the killing of all six terrorists believed to be from Pakistan after they attacked the Indian Air Force base early on Saturday, leaving seven security personnel dead.
“The attack is a message by Mujahideen (militants) that no sensitive installation of India is out of our reach”, said UJC spokesman Syed Sadaqat Hussain in a statement, a copy of which was seen by Reuters.
The attackers had reportedly made several calls to Pakistan, some of them brief and some long.
