Israeli security forces have shot dead a suspected Palestinian attacker near a settlement in the West Bank.

A far-right Israeli has been jailed for three years for an arson attack on an Arabic-Hebrew bilingual school in Jerusalem.

Another Palestinian attempted to attack an officer with a pickaxe at a crossing point in the north-eastern West Bank, but was shot dead by a bullet to the head by the officer, the spokeswoman said. Last month, Israel renewed a policy of demolishing homes of Palestinians accused of carrying out deadly attacks.

A major operation involving the occupation forces from different four IOF brigades in Hizme, southeast of Ramallah, uncovered large number of weapons hidden in Palestinian homes, including three rifles, ammunition, military equipment, daggers, knives and written materials containing incitement to terror attacks, the IOF said.

The Palestinian sources claimed more than 100 attacks have been foiled by the PA security apparatus since October 1. The Palestinians say the violence is rooted in frustration over a lack of hope for obtaining independence.

Two Israeli brothers received sentences earlier this year in a plea bargain. Other than setting fire to the school property, the defendants spray-painted racial slurs including “death to Arabs” and “enough with assimilation”.
