Attention cord-cutters: HBO Now is finally live in the Roku store
That’s right: The premium network’s Internet-only, standalone streaming service is now available on the Roku platform. From there, you can then buy a subscription or start a free trial.
The only time people heard about this, so it seems, is when Cord Cutter News received a corporate email from Roku stating this fact, and when TechCrunch corroborated everything with Roku earlier today. That includes current hit series like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, True Detective, and Ballers as well as every episode of every season of classic shows likeThe Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, and Sex and the City.
With all the major TV boxes out of the way, the question now is when HBO Now might appear on game consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. HBO Now, which provides online streams of its shows and movies for $15 a month, launched in April through Apple devices.
HBO Now is available on any Roku player or Roku TV model. A few informants even said the official website for the service previously didn’t mention Roku in its list of platforms it was “coming soon” to.
After watching streaming-media devices from competitors like Amazon, Apple and Google snatch up the HBO Now app for their respective users, Roku finally made HBO’s Internet-only subscription service available for its users, too.
