Attorney: Corrections officer fired during deadly brawl
While Denver police have made no arrests in the confrontation at the National Western Complex near Interstates 25 and 70, each biker club blamed the other.
However, the two lawyers and Bohm were not at the incident and were only relaying what had been told to them by other club members.
“We have not verified absolutely that law enforcement is part of one of those clubs, absolutely not from Denver”, Denver Police Chief Robert White said Saturday night.
A Colorado Department of Corrections officer who is a member of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club opened fire during the melee, but police have not said whether he fired the fatal shot.
Denver Police Department spokesman Raquel Lopez says she wasn’t aware of any arrests following the Saturday afternoon incident at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo, held at the National Western Complex.
Police have released few details, including any names.
Denver police did not mention the gangs involved in the skirmish. Police say multiple people were injured in a deadly shooting and stabbing incident at The Colorado Motorcycle Expo.
But police are investigating whether they could be from other law enforcement agencies. Stephen Stubbs, an attorney for the Mongols Motorcycle Club, says Medoza was a member of that group.
“We don’t have any issue with the Mongols”, he said.
Denver Paramedics Medical Director Dr. Kevin McVaney has stated that three victims are in critical condition and three other patients are stable, at this time.
Iron Order had about 15 members in attendance, Whitfield said. Whitfield says the officer was a member of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club, which is made up mostly of police and military.
Authorities have released few details about the brawl but said they were looking for more than one gunman. Pools of blood were reportedly seen at the scene of the melee, but the motorcycle expo continued as officers arrived and started the investigation. Stubbs said Iron Order started a verbal, then a physical altercation.
A statement posted on the event’s website said it didn’t have any information and apologized to vendors and patrons for any inconvenience.
