Attorney of Patrick Kane accuser withdraws from rape case
Eoannou says he’s still confident in the woman’s allegations against Kane.
The Patrick Kane case took another weird turn on Thursday night. “Anything that attempts to shake the integrity of an investigation, to corrupt it, to undermine it, to obstruct it, he will not tolerate I’m sure”, said Cambria.
“This case needs to go away”, Cambria told the News.
“I don’t know how that reflects, and I don’t think it does, on the night in question”, Eoannou said of the confusion over the bag.
Eoannou added that he made every effort throughout the investigation to represent his client’s interests. “They fabricated evidence. I told you (Wednesday) that this whole thing was a hoax, and now it is obvious”.
On Wednesday, Eoannou held a press conference during which he asserted a rape kit from the case was left on the porch of the accuser’s mother, per Erik Brady of USA Today. The bag, folded in half and torn, was discovered Tuesday afternoon. “So far, everything that we’ve been given from a physical evidence standpoint is consistent with what he says, and not consistent with forcible intercourse”, the attorney said.
The attorney, speaking to a contingent of local media from his office during an impromptu briefing, said his decision to quit the case has to do with someone other than his client. “It contains the location where the rape kit was done, and it confirms the nurse’s initials who performed the rape kit”.
He began having reservations of the mother’s version of events after continuing his own investigation into how the bag was found, and after meeting with prosecutors on Thursday. Based on new information, the attorney now doubts the events as presented to him.
He said he believes the proceedings should be halted right now and that more information will be released from the district attorney at a press conference Friday. Sedita has said the situation will be investigated.
Kane has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s at his waterfront mansion outside of Buffalo on August 2.
Kane has not been charged with any crime.
“I no longer have the confidence in the manner and means in which that bag came to my office”, he said. The Hamburg police and the county officials securing the evidence maintain the chain of custody has not been broken and all evidence is accounted for.
