Aubrey Morris of “A Clockwork Orange” dies at 89
Morris also is known for his role as the gravedigger in Robin Hardy’s horror film The Wicker Man, co-starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, as well as the 1985 sci-fi film Lifeforce, about space vampires who invade London.
The agent of A Clockwork Orange actor Aubrey Morris has confirmed that the actor has died aged 89. To add to this there was Gene Wilder’s The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother, and numerous television dramas.
One of nine children, the Portsmouth, Hampshire, native studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Morris, who passed away yesterday (July 15), had roles in numerous cult classics on the big and small screen over a 50-year period.
In 1957, theater critic Kenneth Tynan praised Morris for his “mimetic cunning wreathed in cringing smiles”, according to the Guardian. “With his distinctive, precise speech pattern, he could draw out vowel sounds amusingly, or unnervingly”.
He was best known for playing Mr Deltoid in Stanley Kubrick’s hit film A Clockwork Orange. In the excerpt Morris, as Deltoid, cautions lead character Alex (Malcolm McDowell), about the risks of falling foul of the authorities.
