Auburn Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer charged with intimidation
Though Mehajer has not been seen after being charged, his wife Aysha was spotted at the deputy mayor’s Sydney Building Construction Pty Ltd in Sefton.
Salim Mehajer, the controversial deputy mayor of Auburn, has been charged by police after allegedly threatening the father of Lindt cafe survivor Joel Herat.
Police said along with the intimidation charge, Salim Mehajer was also served with an apprehended violence order (AVO).
Mr Mehajer is accused of threatening Bruce Herat, the father of Joel Herat.
The ceremony, which was resplendent with helicopters, prestige cars, red carpets, bikies and standover men, was in itself criticised after streets were closed down or clogged with the heavy traffic the event attracted. Mehajer reportedly targeted the trainer at the gym on September.
Seven News has been told the local councillor shot back with: “Don’t you know who I am?”
Joel Herat was one of the survivors of the Lindt Cafe terrorist attack in December, in which Man Haron Monis took the staff and customers hostage.
Last week Mr Mehajer released a statement denying the claims and saying he would sue Mr Herat and the gym for $10 million in damages.
According to Herat, Mehajer then said: “I’m going to take this further”.
“I will urge the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to change laws to protect high profile politicians and businessmen from such allegations which can turn their career upside down in a split second”.
The millionaire property developer was re-elected as deputy mayor two weeks ago.
Mehajer posted to Facebook earlier today to address the “Commissioner” and contend that NSW police officers were “continuing to make a fool not only of themselves, but of our country”.
Mehajer’s latest weird media appearance was yesterday, when his mansion was featured in the latest film clip from American rapper Bow Wow.
