Auburn Ends Season With Win In Birmingham Bowl Over Memphis 31-10
Presented is the Vegas runner scrutiny of pulling together key achievement indicators from a betting approach on the bout between Memphis and Auburn at noon ET in the Birmingham Bowl. Memphis had halted a three-game losing streak after briefly climbing in to the playoff dialog with a 63-Zero romp over SMU within the regular-season finale when Lynch fired seven first-half touchdown passes.
With Lance Thompson calling plays, Auburn held Memphis to 92 total yards and five first downs over the first 30 minutes. Sean White threw the pass directly to Reggie Ball, who had a clear path to the end zone to tie the game with 3:06 before intermission. He threw a pick six in the second quarter and threw another interception on Auburn’s next play. Memphis, in the meantime, is seeking to win 10 games in a season for the second straight year, after doing it for the first time last year. He’s 8-of-14 with no touchdowns and two interceptions, and Auburn can’t decide whether to stick with him or backup Jeremy Johnson. Robinson has 513 yards while workhorse Peyton Barber has run for 976 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Stat of the Game: Memphis, one of the top passing teams in the country, averaged just 2.9 yards per pass play while completing just 16 of 37 throws. Memphis only converted 3 of 10 third-down attempts and one of them was on a penalty.
For Auburn, it will be without defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, who has already been hired by SC, while Memphis comes in without a head coach, following the departure of Justin Fuente, who took the vacant post at Virginia Tech.
Ball’s Birmingham Bowl antics didn’t go well with the Memphis Athletic Department. Robinson picked up 121 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.
As for the game itself, Ball’s two interceptions weren’t enough. The 6-foot-6 junior quarterback from Montgomery scored a touchdown on his first pass from scrimmage and furthered Auburn’s lead. The pass gave Auburn a first down on the three-yard line, but the drive stalled before Daniel Carlson kicked a 20-yard field goal.
Perhaps more than anything, the momentum, positive or negative, gained from this game will be of the utmost importance for the Auburn program. “Our defense was outstanding, our offense in the second half really took the game over, but I’m extremely happy for our seniors to get these guys out with a bowl win”. “I think we need to pick up on defense a little bit more, and actually score some more points”.
