Auburn Foster Child Death ‘Very hard Case,’ Says DA
The Worcester County DA said that the girl, 2-year-old Avalena Conway-Coxon, died at the hospital and the other remains in “very critical” condition.
Massachusetts authorities are conducting an investigation after two foster children were found unresponsive in the Auburn foster home.
State Police detectives with the Worcester District Attorney’s Office were “investigating the situation in Auburn”, said a spokesman for the district attorney.
An autopsy was performed Sunday night on the toddler, who died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
Early said life-saving measures were performed on the second girl, also about 2 years old, who remained in “very critical” condition.
They said all kinda looked usual, except the foster mother was at sweating with a sores she let it be known the little one came back residence by using from moment attention.
No arrests have been made.
They said all seemed normal, except that the foster mom was fretting over a rash she said the toddler returned home with from day care.
Early said at a news conference Sunday that the children’s foster mother called 911 at 12:23 p.m. Saturday, reporting two children were unresponsive. He said air quality tests were done at the home and carbon monoxide poisoning has been ruled out. Neighbors told WBZ-TV they trusted her to babysit their own children and that she was a good mother.
“I feel that it’s time the governor, time that proper authorities sat down and did a number with these DCF people”, said David Coxon, the child’s grandfather.
The Auburn crisis follows the hospitalization last month of Jack Loiselle, 7, of Hardwick, who police say was starved and tortured by his father, Randall Lints, 26, though DCF case workers regularly visited the house.
A third foster child and the woman’s three biological children also lived in the home, but they are now in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families. He said Conway is completing a residential drug rehabilitation program.
The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families is “conducting itself researching plus working with police on their investigation”, a spokesperson said. Those children are also in DCF care now pending results of this investigation. She told reporters her daughter rushed over to help the woman, who was holding an uninjured 6-month-old baby in her arms.
Conway said officials told her there were no obvious signs of trauma. “She would have been an unbelievable child”.
On Sunday afternoon, neighbors placed a bouquet of flowers, candles and two stuffed toys outside the home.
