Auburn hopes to keep momentum building on Saturday against Arkansas
Auburn is 6-0 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 1-4 against the spread following a win, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six SEC games.
“It’s always different”, Malzahn said of going back to Arkansas. “We have two or three guys we feel good that could take it to the house”. “Any time you get a road win, it will definitely give you confidence the next time you are on the road”.
Senior quarterback Brandon Allen and junior running back Alex Collins, the SEC’s active leader in career rushing yards, lead an Arkansas offense that is averaging over 430 yards of offense per game in 2015.
The Arkansas Razorbacks and the Auburn Tigers face off on Saturday at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium for a week 8 SEC College football matchup. “He’s a very good back”. He’s getting used to carrying the football more too, with more carries.
As for the confidence on the defensive side of the ball, Lambert said he doesn’t see a challenge in Arkansas’ offensive front, comparing them to any other SEC team. I would have said it was more hype than substance until Bielema was quoted earlier in the year as saying that he “hates” those guys in reference to Auburn’s coaching staff. Bielema’s comment could have been flippant, in jest, sarcastic, half-hearted or deadly serious.
The following September 19 Saturday in a 35-24 loss to Texas Tech in Fayetteville, Razorbacks receiver Jared Cornelius broke his arm catching Arkansas’ first pass.
“We are improving ― you can see it in practice, you can see it in our guys” demeanor”, Malzahn said on the university’s Tiger Talk radio show on Monday night.
Why You Need To Care Arkansas played well against Alabama, but it was still a loss and it was still the fourth defeat in the last five games. With classes suspended on Monday and Tuesday for fall break Bielema will use Tuesday morning for a simulation of Saturday’s pregame.
The quarterback competition was opened throughout the bye week, but Sean White maintained his starting job over former starter Jeremy Johnson.
He is doing something Gus Malzahn likes over the last three games and that is limiting turnovers.
“He’s improved each game”, Malzahn said. I think the big thing from my standpoint is he is protecting the football. Fournette will gain yards on Alabama, but the Tide will stop him enough to put the onus on Harris, and I doubt that he will be able to deliver for LSU with the game in his lap. However, given the animosity, real or perceived, between the two schools since the arrival of Bret Bielema to Fayetteville three years ago, Arkansas-Auburn has turned into one of the most anticipated games on the Razorbacks schedule. It hasn’t become a game-breaking element, the way the formation was for Arkansas in 2006, when Malzahn was Razorbacks offensive coordinator, with Darren McFadden.
“It’s helped him with kickoffs, he’s one of the best in the country”, Malzahn said.
“I’ll tell you what, I think he runs hard. That year allowed me to be a college coach”.
With the win, Auburn believe the month of October will be where this season turns around. “We just want to get another SEC win and that’s the honest truth”. He’s going to help us communicate, and get aligned quickly and efficiently.
