Auburn receiver Duke Williams moves teammates with his life story
Malzahn said Williams would be available to play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game on September 5 in Atlanta when No. 3 Auburn faces Louisville.
“We’re going to be different obviously and we know we have a different quarterback with a skill set that isn’t like Nick (Marshall) at all”, running backs coach Tim Horton said.
Not to mention, in the world of “Shoulda, Woulda, Coluda”, what would Auburn’s 2013 season have looked like if not for the fluke kick return in the Iron Bowl, or the fluke Hail Mary against Georgia?
This isn’t the first time Williams has been in trouble since he joined the Tigers in 2014. Coach Gus Malzahn addressed that attitude adjustment immediately, thus assuring his coaches that there would not be another Jermaine Whitehead deal that would distract the team once the season begins. Williams did not run with the first-team offense on Thursday, and it may be a while before he does that again.
The presence of Williams out wide is especially vital this season for what Auburn will most likely do on the offensive side of the ball.
According to a story earlier in the week by Crepea, Auburn has rotated Ricardo Louis, Melvin Ray, Myron Burton Jr. and Darius Slayton as Williams’ usual spot at split end/”X” receiver.
“As long as he’s doing what he’s supposed to do”, Craig said.
“That was the most disappointing thing, when you have a chance to do something special and don’t”. Your expectations are going to be higher than everybody else’s because you’re a senior now.’ When he decided to come back, I talked to him about my expectations for him, his leadership role and where he needs to be. “I have not done well with it. And as soon as it happens, I pay the price”. The senior plays for one of the nation’s top college football programs and is considered one of the country’s top wide receivers entering this year.
Malzahn did note that Williams would start at the bottom of the depth chart.
