Audi Recall: Full List of Models Affected by Volkswagen Emissions Scandal
In 1987, the automaker was forced to recall more than 250,000 cars because they accelerated unexpectedly. The investigation targets accusations of fraud due to the sale of vehicles with pollution control cheating software, the statement added.
“I have asked Volkswagen Danmark for a meeting with its head Ulrik Schönemann in order to keep abreast of the case”.
The news arrived after VW subsidiary Audi admitted more than two million of its cars had also been fitted with the emission-rigging software at the centre of the scandal.
After Bernhard left Volkswagen in 2007, Martin Winterkorn became VW Group and brand CEO and tasked Audi development boss Ulrich Hackenberg to continue development on the engine. Among Volkswagen’s brands are Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT and Skoda. While the wider auto market has also been affected by the crisis, with people becoming apprehensive of buying diesel-powered cars, regulators and prosecutors across the globe are investigating into the scandal. German authorities have insisted that VW reveals by 7th October how it will ensure its cars are legally tested in future.
The so-called defeat device was built into some 11 million Volkswagen vehicles worldwide, almost 500,000 of which are in the United States, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Leading figures at Volkswagen Porsche and Audi have allegedly been disciplined amid the scandal, with Reuters claiming that the latter’s A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5 models are affected.
The number one global carmaker in terms of absolute sales have apparently set aside €6.5bn to deal with the fallout of the scandal but some experts believe VW could face up to $18bn in potential fines.
Audi admit 2.1 million Audi cars have the same emissions cheating software as Volkswagen.
Around 1.42 million of these vehicles are in western Europe while 13,000 of them are in the US.
