Audi reveals first all-electric e-tron SUV

The SUV was unveiled in San Francisco as production began in Belgium. A new generation of the Quattro drive, the electric all-wheel drive, ensures excellent traction and dynamics. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes are all introducing electric SUVs in the next year or two.

The European version of e-tron is 402HP with 95kWh lithium-ion battery having 150 kWh DC high-speed charging.

Goodyear announce it will supply its Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 SUV tires (in 265/45R21 SUV size) to Audi’s first electric SUV, the e-tron. Depending on the driving style and conditions, the e-tron offers a range of up to 310 miles. During far more than 90 percent of all decelerations, the Audi e-tron recovers energy exclusively via its electric motors. UBS analyst Patrick Hummel said in a note on Tuesday that the e-tron “fails to set new benchmarks in the premium EV segment, even though we consider it better than the Mercedes EQC”. Due to this, we don’t really have a number to compare it with Model X or any other EV for that matter.

With the help of specific sensor technologies, the DTS reacts and communicates with employees in the different parts of the facility and when the units require recharging they automatically drive to an induction charging station. Electrify America’s chargers are capable of delivering up to 350 kW.

Audi e-tron is not a traditional looking Audi SUV.

Audi’s first electric crossover employs a pair of cooled asynchronous motors attached to single-stage transmissions to deliver torque to the e-tron’s axles.

Audi said the use of such smart factory technology made the increasing complexity and broad spectrum of variants in vehicle production manageable.

The e-tron features an in-built e-tag and an auto-billing system for use at charging stations along with a route planner that displays appropriate charging points. That feature is still not approved by USA regulators.
