Audi reveals hydrogen-powered SUV concept in Detroit
In the near future it will be possible for fuel cell cars like the Audi h-tron Quattro Concept, to tap e-gas at the pump and drive with zero emissions.
Like the related e-tron quattro, the h-tron quattro offers a clear indication of what we can expect from a production enviro-friendly SUV, expected to wear the Q6 name. Despite using different powertrains, the two concept cars share the same next-generation underpinnings, while there are striking similarities between the two interiors.
The h-tron concept suggests Audi is working on hydrogen fuel cells in addition to the battery electric vehicles that have gotten the most attention recently.
The vehicle will be built on the Volkswagen Group’s front wheel drive NSF (New Small Family) platform used by the Volkswagen up! With all that power on tap, the h-tron can sprint to 62mph in under seven seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 124mph. And by all-in, (we) use the strength of our 300-plus dealers, use a full-blown marketing campaign…$30-$40 million (and) use all the assets Audi has.
The h-tron quattro’s hydrogen fuel tanks are located under the passenger and luggage compartments, and can be refilled in around four minutes. The auto also has a battery that can temporarily provide an extra does of power, giving the h-tron a potential output of 282bhp.
And Audi is showing the h-tron quattro, a hydrogen-fueled variation of last year’s e-tron quattro concept.
Also getting in on the action was Audi, who earlier today rolled out the Audi h-tron Quattro, a stout SUV with quite a few tricks up its sleeve. The auto is said to reach from 0-62 miles per hour in just under 7 seconds which is impressive given its green credentials.
There’s no reason why new alternative fuel cars can’t look great. It creates a model of the car’s surroundings in real time and passes this data to the assistance systems and the piloted driving and parking systems.
In terms of its cabin, Audi has implemented numerous features it revealed a week ago at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas – OLED touch-sensitive displays, and touch-sensitive elements on the steering wheel too.
