Audi unveils new range-topping RS6 and RS7 ahead of February arrival
The full 553 lb-ft of torque is only available when the overboost function is enabled by selecting Dynamic mode-the auto otherwise makes a constant 516 lb-ft of torque, the same as the standard vehicle.
If you think the current RS6 and RS7 just don’t have enough performance edge, then Audi has just the job for you – the new RS6 and RS7 Performance models, both of which get what could best be described as “adequate” performance from the newly tweaked 4.0 litre turbo engine – with a whopping 597bhp.
We’re talking about 0-100 in 3.7 seconds (two tenths quicker than the standard RS models) 0-200 in 12.1 seconds (1.4s inside the RS number) and top speeds of 280 and 305 km/h respectively with the optional dynamic package.
The standard-issue transmission is an eight-speed tiptronic with ratios optimised for the increase in power and revs, shifting manually (when you want to) via either sequential movements of the gear lever or paddle shifters on the RS multifunction sport steering wheel. In its manual mode, the driver can view a shift indicator in either the driver information system or on the optional head-up display.
The Quattro system’s drive is split 40:60 front:rear in regular driving, redistributed between the axles as necessary depending on the immediate driving demands.
The new RS performance models come standard with exclusive 21-inch cast aluminum wheels shod with size 285/30 tires on the RS 6 Avant performance and 275/30 tires on the RS 7 Sportback performance. An RS sport suspension system is also available, with Dynamic Ride Control, while dynamic steering is also available. An adaptive air suspension lowers the car’s height by 0.8 inches, and drivers of the performance model can now choose their drive mode via a steering wheel-mounted button. The four internally ventilated brake discs have a weight-saving wave design, and can be replaced by carbon fibre-ceramic discs as an option. The list of visual modifications includes a new front bumper with bigger air dams, a bigger air diffuser built into the rear bumper, and matte titaninum trim.
United Kingdom pricing for the Performance models has not yet been revealed, but in Germany the RS6 Avant goes on sale at 117,000 euros and the RS7 Sportback at 121,700 euros. Inside, both cars boast sport seats and a performance-specific instrument cluster. Rounding out this interior combination are knee pads in Alcantara and carbon twill blue inlays.
