Audience lose their minds when Star Wars projector breaks
One screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens came to a halt on early Friday morning (December 18) when the projector broke at the ArcLight Hollywood theater.
Erik Melendez, a student at UCLA studying political science, posted the above video and this lament: “Projector at Star Wars midnight 3D show at the Arclight ruined, stopped, then started again towards the end of the movie”.
“The theater went into mayhem, people ran out, yelling ‘Stop the movie!,’ closing their eyes-anything to not witness a spoiler”, Melendez told LAist.
“Now that we watched the movie, we know it wasn’t the ending”, Melendez said, as quoted by CNN. “However, at the time, we thought it was ’cause we saw the movie swift forwarded and believed it to be spoilers”.
“One word: Awesome!” Star Wars fan Libby Pamlin says. That puts it on track to top the $208 million weekend record set by Jurassic World over the summer. The first Star Wars film in a decade reunited original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, who are joined by newbies Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson and Gwendoline Christie.
For an opening night audience at Hollywood’s Arclight Cinemas, the nightmare was a reality.
The Long Beach accountant, his wife, Monique Matta, and her extended family were among the legions of fans decked out in their “Star Wars” gear and novelty 3-D glasses for the seventh “Star Wars” movie, which has already amassed record-breaking box-office numbers.
