Augsburg confirm Baba’s move to Chelsea
He was part of the Augsburg side that stunned everyone by finishing fifth in the top flight, and subsequently qualified for this year’s Europa League.
The Bundesliga outfit confirmed the transfer soon after the Chelsea’s loss to Manchester City, however they have not disclosed the details of the transfer.
He replaces Filipe Luis, who was sold back to Atletico Madrid in the summer.
Augsburg defender Baba Rahman has has a medical ahead of his move to Chelsea, according to Sky sources.
“Abdul Rahman Baba has developed enormously and made a huge leap in one year with us”, Augsburg general manager Stefan Reuter said.
“It’s not just a reward for his performances, but also for our work, if an worldwide giant like Chelsea shows interest”. Although Chelsea are yet to officially confirm, it has been announced by the German club on social media, who wished him all the best in England.
Rahman is expected to be left out of Augsburg’s squad for Saturday’s Bundesliga opener with Hertha Berlin.
Rahman told the Chelsea website that he is “very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world” and is looking forward to working with Jose Mourinho.
Rahman will now offer Mourinho an alternative to Azpilicueta at left back, as well as the option to move the former Marseille man to right back at the expense of Branislav Ivanovic.
