Aussie becomes biggest loser by posting $825 winning ticket on Facebook
It is unwise to post a winning ticket on social media, and someone just learnt it the hard way!
A friend of the woman cheated out of $825 after posting a Facebook selfie of her winning Melbourne Cup ticket – along with its bar code – has revealed the winning ticket was actually worth a cumulative $2475.
Chantelle scored $825 by backing 100:1 shot Prince of Penzance and was so excited she promptly took a selfie in which she held the ticket up by her face.
But little did Chantelle know that her photo crucially showed the barcode which could be used at an automated machine to claim the cash – which is exactly what someone on her Facebook friend list did. Someone used the barcode to claim her winnings, making Chantelle now Australia’s biggest loser instead.
While there were plenty of unhappy punters after yesterday’s Melbourne Cup upset, no one was left feeling more sour than this Perth woman.
“Wow!!! Who need enemies with a “friend” like that?”
She is promising to cull a few of her Facebook friends from her profile. You’re a massive d-ck. “You ruined my day”, a miffed Chantelle wrote on Facebook.
The good news was that my husband, Ray, drew Prince of Penzance in the golf club sweep.
Police investigated the incident and had found the machine used to withdraw the money, The Sydney Morning Herald reported, and believed they would be able to locate the culprit.
But after getting word she had fallen victim to cyber theft, Chantelle posted a follow up message that was quite a different tone.
