Austin officer fatally shoots armed, fleeing man
During a 5:30 a.m. press briefing Austin police said a woman called 911 around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to report a man was following her.
Police questioned the man at his home on Claxton Drive about following the woman and then noticed something about the man’s vehicle and shirt. Last Sunday officers shot a man who had a gun inside a downtown Austin hotel.
“As they walked off the porch towards the driveway, they observed the truck that was in the driveway to have blood on the vehicle in multiple places”, said Assistant Chief Brian Manley.
During the course of the conversation, the man took off running.
During the chase on foot, police said he reached for his waistband as if he was going to draw a weapon.
A weapon was found next to the deceased.
It is standard procedure for an officer involved in a fatal shooting to be placed on leave pending an investigation, police said.
Police say they got a call late Sunday night from a woman in her vehicle who said she was being followed by a truck. In the video, officers can be heard yelling, “Come out with your hands up!”
This is the third time an APD officer has shot and killed someone in the past week.
So far in 2015, Austin police officers have opened fire on seven people.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Police in Austin are investigating the shooting death of an armed man by an officer after the man fled during questioning. There were a total of three cases in 2014.
