Australia rope in Coulter-Nile, Pattinson for Windies series
Coulter-Nile, 28, has been included despite not playing any Sheffield Shield matches so far this summer.
“I’m definitely fit enough”, Coulter-Nile said.
“I’ve been training for a while now and been bowling for a long time”.
“I honestly don’t know”, he added when asked when he would be back.
“You’ve got to think of the kid’s health”.
He also bowled the fastest-recorded Test delivery of 160.4 kilometres per hour during the drawn second Perth Test. It’s what we have to do. “Four weeks, it probably will do it a bit of good if I keep that range in there”, he said.
“There is some overs under the belt”.
Coulter-Nile was a player with the Australian Team, a team that toured India, in the beginning of this year to play in games against India and South Africa.
The call for day-night Tests was taken following the dimishing interest of the spectators in Test cricket, after attendances had dwindled from the stadiums over the years.
National selectors will be forced to make one change to the XI, with Pattinson coming in for injured spearhead Mitchell Starc.
The Windies are third-last in the ICC’s Test rankings – ahead of only Bangladesh and Zimbabwe – and have stuck with the same squad which suffered a 2-0 series whitewash in Sri Lanka last month.
“I heard about it, I’ve never seen snow so I’m looking forward to it”, Holder laughed. “I can promise you, when you’re out there on the field, it’s the most nervous thing you’ll ever do”.
So the Australian coach was rapt when much-maligned Shaun Marsh played the decisive hand in the third Test win against New Zealand.
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland says he’ll be pushing for more day-night tests on the schedule after a fan survey showed strong support for the new format.
Australia bowled New Zealand out for 208 to set a victory target of 187 and though seamer Trent Boult’s five wickets took the match down to the wire, the hosts’ lion-hearted paceman Peter Siddle stroked the winning runs under the floodlights.
Pattinson was close to being picked ahead of Josh Hazlewood for the day-night Test at Adelaide Oval.
Starc fractured his right foot on the opening day in Adelaide and was visibly hobbling when sent out to bat.
The Victorian was overlooked but his chance to play Test cricket for the first time since March 2014 will come in Hobart next week.
