Australian big man signs with UK, expected on campus this weekend
Isaac Humphries has – as CBS Sports reported he would eventually do three weeks ago – reclassified to the Class of 2015 and signed with John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats.
His stock skyrocketed after last summer, when he averaged 18.9 points and 11.6 rebounds – including 41 points and 19 rebounds against Canada – at the FIBA U17 World Championships for Australia.
The University of Kentucky has officially bolstered its frontcourt for the 2015-16 season with the signing of 7-foot, 245-pound Australian center Isaac Humphries, according to multiple reports.
If UK basketball wasn’t a pre-season No. 1 before, it may be now after the late addition of a new player.
“You’re recruiting guys who don’t want to run from this”, Calipari said of the recent trend. Whether they’re from Lexington, Ky., or Toronto, Canada, or from Australia, who wants this? Because guys who play here, they’ll tell – you’ve got to want this. “You’ve got to run at it. And those are the guys that come here and have success”. He is generally regarded as a four-star player. He’s expected to start classes at Kentucky on Wednesday. Humphries joins a class that includes elite prospect Skal Labissiere, five-star guards Isaiah Briscoe and Jamal Murray, four-star wing Charles Matthews and junior college shooter Mychal Mulder.
