Australian man charged with planning terror attack following raids
According to some Australian media reports, Galea had links with far-right organisations like Reclaim Australia and True Blue Crew.
The Joint Counter-Terrorism Team, which took part in the operation on Saturday, has been carrying out a series of raids in various cities amid increasing concern about home-grown extremism.
Police also did not give details of the target of the alleged attack, but said it was in the southern state of Victoria.
He said he would fight the charges and believed they were a conspiracy against him.
“As I’m advised. there was no imminent threat to safety that was imminent coming from the charges laid against this particular person”, he said.
“I think we’ve interrupted what could have been something that’s quite serious in terms of harm to our community”, he said.
“We represent the middle ground of Australia, not far right, nor extremist”, the group said.
A worker in the Braybrook area, who wished to remain anonymous, said a large police truck arrived and there were officers covered head-to-toe in combat gear.
Seven unmarked police cars, the AFP and neighbours were outside a Pyke Street, Tatura, property, where one person was arrested.
Commissioner Guenther said he was not in a position to confirm the location or specifics of the terror threat, but said police were concerned that the threat to the public was escalating. However, Reclaim Australia stated in a Facebook post that there was no relationship between them.
