Australian police arrest men accused of planning attack on naval base

On Wednesday, two Palestinian attackers were shot dead after they stabbed and killed an Israeli man. Another Israeli man died after he was apparently shot by Israeli police trying to subdue the attackers.

“The shocking pictures that were broadcast… show the true face of a group that constitutes a danger to Israeli society and to the security of Israel”, Netanyahu said in a statement.

A third incident saw a Palestinian shot dead attempting to ram his auto into a military post near the Adam junction northeast of Jerusalem, the army said.

Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 120 Palestinians, 72 of whom authorities described as assailants, while others died in clashes with security forces.

The agency said it arrested 25 suspected Hamas members who operated in the area of Abu Dis east of Jerusalem and in Bethlehem, in the West Bank.

They say the Palestinian man was shot during the attack.

One of the attackers was killed at the scene, while the second died shortly after arriving at Hadassah hospital in western Jerusalem.

On Wednesday, two Israeli Jews were killed in a knife attack near the Jaffa Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Senior UN official Miroslav Jenca said at the time that a comprehensive strategy necessary to reduce violence must not rely entirely on “enhanced security measures”, but “must also address the primary elements motivating Palestinian anger”. The assailant, 23-year-old Mouhamed Zaharn from the village of Adick was shot dead.

No one was hurt in the incident overnight in the village of Beitillu in the occupied West Bank, a police spokeswoman said.

One of the victims who died was accidentally shot by police during the attack.

A wave of violence since the start of October has claimed the lives of 124 on the Palestinian side, 17 Israelis, an American and an Eritrean.

A court official said security had been stepped up outside the home of a judge presiding over the case, and postings on social media accused him of failing to stop the Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security service, mistreating the suspects.

A police spokesman said the auto accelerated in the direction of the border police officers, who took cover and fired at the vehicle.
