Australian woman jailed for having 12-yr-old’s baby
A Melbourne mother who gave birth to a 12-year-old boy’s daughter has been jailed for sexual abuse.
“The protection of children is an extremely important matter”, the judge told the woman when jailing her for six years with a non-parole period of three years and six months and placing her on the sex offenders register for life.
The 40-year-old Melbourne mother – who can not be named – was sentenced at the Victorian County Court on Monday.
The Victoria County Court heard that she admitted developing feelings for the child and began a relationship with him, with the pair having sex without using condoms.
“You did not recognize that your feelings for the boy were completely inappropriate”, said Judge Patrick Jane.
The woman, 40, gave birth to a daughter in May last year when her victim was 14.
A psychiatric evaluation found the woman was attracted to the boy because he was physically maturing, and not because she is attracted to children, apparently making her unlikely to reoffend. A DNA test confirmed that their child was the biological father of the infant.
The boy’s mother said her whole family had been affected by what had gone on.
‘She [the boy’s mother] has described how you have taken away his childhood and the difficulties he has had adjusting to fatherhood and what has happened to him, ‘ the judge said. The girl is being cared for by the boy and his mother, and the Department of Human Services will take the girl to prison for weekly visits with the defiler. “You have allowed your physical and emotional urges overcome what should have been the proper adult response”, the judge said.
